Hot fic summer.

A reminder that I’m taking this summer off. Well, not off, precisely. Come on. I’m still scribbling away relentlessly, just elsewhere and in aid of something completely different: trying to write at last the novel that’s been burbling in me for longer than I can remember. Well, maybe not this exact novel. The first idea I had for a novel was when I was four, and it was going to be about how much I love cats.

This will not be a book about cats.

But I do need some more practice at getting outside of myself, at writing about people who are not me, nor Alex, or the rest of the Terrible Ten, or my own childhood gang of superannuated adolescents mostly kicking around in the LA area. (Sean is still up in Seattle, suffering in heat so intense the streets have turned to “basically magma,” as he says. Perfectly lovely here in Santa Monica, thank you.) So back to school I’ve gone to learn how to turn the mirror on the world from where I’ve been staring into it for over two years.

I’m posting some of my efforts over at https://mlcarrauthor.com/ if you’re interested. I don’t know why you would be, but I have found in my years on this planet that people do some very odd things.
